SUPPORT THE RESEARCH / EQUIPMENT FUND

Help measure what war leaves behind.

Help fund an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer to continue investigating metals in war-affected sediments.

WHAT YOU’RE SUPPORTING

A tool for the next measurements.

An XRF analyzer measures which elements are present in a sample and their concentrations. This equipment would support Carrie A. Shuster’s continuing research into metals in sediments affected by war.

The instrument model and purchase budget are not yet finalized. A funding target will be added once a purchase quote is confirmed.

Where your contribution goes

This campaign is for scientific equipment, specifically an XRF analyzer. Payment information is handled by PayPal, not collected on this website.

What the equipment can tell us

XRF results require appropriate sample preparation, calibration, and quality control. Measurements need to be interpreted alongside sampling history and local geology: metal concentrations alone cannot establish a wartime source, chemical form, biological availability, or health effects. Support makes research possible; it does not determine the findings.

Other ways to help

Paid Substack membership ↗ supports Carrie’s writing and research separately from this equipment fund.
