War changes the land.
Here's the evidence.
Explore documented changes to water, vegetation, debris and coastlines. Every mapped case connects a reported impact to its original source and the questions science has not yet answered.
Find the environmental footprint
Choose a site or filter by environmental pathway. The map shows study locations, not inferred impact boundaries.
Look closer. Read the limitations.
Figures are only plotted when the units and denominator make sense. Narrative evidence is presented as a pathway, not a fabricated statistic.

How damage propagates
Ordered findings and hypotheses are labeled by evidence type. Arrows are explanatory, not proof of sole causation.
Every figure has a source.
The CSV download contains indicators from all four cases, regardless of this filter.

A map pin is not a contamination measurement.
This atlas is a dated, curated research snapshot. It does not represent every conflict, show current battlefield conditions, or map safe and unsafe places. Reports differ in geography, observation dates and methods. We do not sum unlike quantities, equate assessed risk with measured exposure, or infer pollutant concentrations from weapons use.
Documented physical change from imagery or field observations, with the observation window stated.
Calculated from an explicit method or assumptions, such as conflict debris quantities.
Descriptions in institutional investigations, supported by the identified source but not necessarily comparable across places.
Mechanisms requiring direct sampling, longer-term study or independent verification. Not displayed as measured harm.
